It was 7:53 A.M. and events were about to unfold that would propel the United States into a World War that would ultimately cost more than a quarter-million American men and women their lives. On this day alone more than 2,400 men, women and children would die in Paradise.

Homes for Heroes San Diego would like to honor our brave men and women this Veterans Day! Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans.

This Veterans Day, Homes for Heroes San Diego reminds you to thank a soldier. We are lucky to live in San Diego and lucky to live amongst thousands of soldiers who have served overseas. When you see a soldier walking this week, remember how brave they have acted in fighting for your freedom. Show your bravery, by walking up to them and thanking them for what they have done and what they continue to do!

It was during the American Revolution that a committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, to write a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore. Approved on November 10, 1775, this resolution officially formed the Continental Marines.

Since that day, brave men and women have put thier own safety on the line to fight for our freedom! Marines, our HEROES, we salute you and wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

All this week we celebrate the sacrifices they make to keep us comfortable,
safe and healthy! I want to share a short piece that I read today…

“We are a breed apart,
if I may say so. With more nerve than sense, and a sense of humor likened to
none, we tackle the unknown with speed and courage. And after a few years of
practice, our instincts become finely tuned, and our ability to treat and
street becomes streamlined.

We are the least likely to
tolerate abuse from patients or families, yet we are the most likely to be
abused. We get hit, kicked, bitten, spat upon and cussed at. We are lied to,
yelled at and reported by patients. We have seen and treated every part of humans,
even when those parts are no longer attached to the body.

We have, on occasion, found
rolls of cash stashed in an elderly corpse, cleaned maggots from a wound,
pulled poop out from a decubitus ulcer, and assisted in removing amazing and
unbelievable foreign objects from various orifices… (orifii?)

We know all bleeding stops,
and that miracles can happen. And we wish you didn’t need us, but we know you
always will….”
